Sharing some of my Psych Blues #4 film samples today!
What is Psych Blues #4 film?
Psych Blues is experimental film for 120 and 35mm cameras that adds psychedelic light artefacts, like streaks and hazy colour, to images. The manufacturer of the Psych Blues film creates several different variations (I tried #4, ISO 200) and they also sell single-use cameras.
The description on the Psych Blues website states, "Psychedelic Blues #4 is entirely exposed to holographic paper resulting in multiple spectrums of color throughout the roll. These colors will come from all directions, and fade in and out between frames."
I purchased a roll of Psych Blues #4 film at Bellows Film Lab in Miami earlier this year, excited to try something experimental. And it did not disappoint!
My Psych Blues #4 film samples
After loading the Psych Blues #4 film into my vintage Olympus OM1, the first stop was the Miami Beach Botanical Garden. The botanical garden was the perfect place to try out this unique film. As shown below, the psychedelic light elements really vary by frame and range in colour. The streaks of red and orange look amazing with the lush greenery of the garden. The yellow and blue pops of colour also add nice effects to the images.
There were a few frames where the psychedelic effects aren't as noticeable.
Next stop was the baseball game, where I took a few frames just out of curiosity for how the photos would turn out.
And finally, some street shots along Miami Beach. I love the retro look of the palm tree photos.
Final thoughts on Psych Blues #4 film
I love how the botanical garden photos came out and I would like to get some of them printed. I would definitely buy this film again when it is back in stock, and also try a different variation of the Psych Blues film.
